LETTER FROM THE PRINCIPAL...
Dear Hurricane Family,
We are off and running after a great start. We currently have 1,235 students. Classroom routines and procedures have been established and great things are happening everywhere. South Seminole Middle School is a great place to be! Florida is migrating to a new State Assessment entitled Florida Standards Assessment (FSA). We encourage all parents to login to the FSA Parent Portal (fsassessments.org) to review test items and resources.
The SAC membership has been established for the 2014-2015 school year. SAC will have meetings on the second Tuesday of the month, at 6:00 pm in the front office conference room. Please join us at Lyman High School for a joint PTA/SAC meeting on September 30, 2014 at 6:00pm. This event will be hosted by our very own Dr. Walt Griffin, SCPS Superintendent. This is an open meeting and everyone is encouraged to attend. We are developing our School Improvement Plan for this year and are working to increase the achievement of ALL students at SSMS.
I will highlight one of our goals in each newsletter.
GOAL: To improve student learning, all teachers will utilize Marzano’s High Yield Instructional Strategies’ and Best Practices to provide rigorous instruction aligned to Florida State Standards in ELA, Math, Writing and Science.
We understand not everyone can volunteer at school or be a part of SAC; However, everyone can help us with the education process with their own children.
You can help in the following ways:
•Review class work, notes, and homework, nightly
•Provide a quiet spot for homework to be completed
•Communicate regularly with the teachers
•Check the website, and/or Social Media sites for updates regularly*
•Create a habit of daily reading for your child
We have high expectations for our students and we are working to ensure each has the opportunity to reach their personal goals. Thank you for your help and support.
We look forward to a fantastic year!
Sincerely,
Mia L. Coleman-Baker
